Treat myself to a salon or spa day

Mothers, generally tend to take care of everyone, but themselves. I, for one, am guilty as charged! But I’ve learned throughout the years that it is important to take a few hours to go to the hair salon, nail salon and/or spa. Our outward appearance is a reflection of how we feel about ourselves. Although there are moments where we can’t find the time, it’s important to make time. I personally am only able to head to the hair salon at least bimonthly, and do my nails at home. If you are unable to find someone to stay with your kid(s) ask a friend to accompany you with your kid(s). Make time for yourself, mama – you matter!

Crear un Tarro de Gratitud (Gratitude Jar)

Un “Tarro de Gratitud” es un tarro lleno de notas de agradecimiento (diarias o semanales). La idea es escribir en una nota adhesiva por lo que estás agradecido con Dios, en otras palabras, algo que sucedió ese día o semana específico y quieres resaltarlo y estás agradecido de que haya sucedido, etc. Esto se puede hacer semanalmente o incluso diariamente. ¡La gratitud cambia nuestra actitud! En mi hogar, empezamos nuestro frasco el 1 de enero de este año y lo llenamos junto con los niños casi todas las noches. Esto es algo que mis niños se emocionan de hacer y les enseña a estar agradecidos por las cosas pequeñas, incluyendo los días ordinarios. ¡También nos enseña que todos los días, siempre hay algo por lo que estar agradecido!

Al final del año, abre el frasco y lee sobre todas las grandes razones por las que tu y tu familia estuvieron agradecidos en 2022.

Create a Gratitude Jar

A Gratitude Jar is a jar full of (daily or weekly) “Thank you” notes. The idea is to write down on a sticky note what you are grateful to God for – in other words, something that has happened that specific day or week and you want to highlight it and are grateful that it happened etc. This can be done weekly or even daily. Gratitude changes our attitude! We created our jar on January 1st of this year and have filled it out together with the kids every other night. This is something they look forward to doing and it teaches them to be grateful for even the ordinary days. It also teaches us that everyday, there is always something to be thankful for!

At the end of the year, open the jar and read about all the great reasons you and your family were grateful in 2022.

Enfocarme en las palabras que dijo

¡Oh, el poder de nuestras palabras! Si tan solo entendiéramos verdaderamente el profundo impacto que nuestras palabras tienen en nuestros pequeños. Cosecharemos todo lo que confesemos. Si les hablamos negativamente a nuestros hijos, incluso con dichos comunes e “inofensivos” como: “terribles dos”, “pequeño monstruo” o diciendo cosas como “¡me están volviendo loco!”, entonces, ¿cuál crees que será el resultado? Obtendramos exactamente lo que hablamos sobre nuestros hijos. Somos la principal influencia y autoridad de ellos y ellos empezarán a reflejar lo que decimos que son.

Hoy, enfócate en cada frase y palabra que sale de tu boca, particularmente en los momentos en que te sientas abrumada, molesta, frustrada, etc. Antes de pronunciar algo, respira profundamente, cuenta hasta 10 y di una oración rápida si es necesario, luego proceda a manejar la situación. Recuerda, ¡siempre hay espacio para mejorar! Haz un esfuerzo por ser cuidadoso con tus palabras, especialmente cuando te dirijas a tu(s) hijo(s).

Focus on my words

Oh the power of our words! If only we truly understood the profound impact our words have on our little ones. We will reap everything we confess. If we speak negatively toward our children – even common, “harmless” sayings like: “terrible twos”, “little monster” or saying things like, “they’re driving me nuts!”, then what do you think the outcome will be? We will get exactly what we speak over our children. We are our children’s main influence and authority and they will begin mirroring what we say they are.

Today, focus on every phrase and word that comes out of your mouth, particularly in moments that you feel overwhelmed, upset, frustrated, etc. Before uttering anything, take deep breathes, count to 10, and say a flash prayer if you must, then proceed in handling the situation. Remember, there is always room to improve! Make an effort to be careful with your words, especially when addressing your child(ren).

"Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers" - Ephesians 4:29
