Hug my child(ren) for one minute
There are numerous benefits of hugging others which (according to Healthline.com) include:
- reduce stress
- protect you against illness
- boost your heart rate
- make you happier
- reduce fears
- reduce your pain
- help you communicate with others
In the U.S. people tend to receive and give less hugs perhaps due to their busy lives and less social interactions. Yet the more hugs we receive, the healthier and happier we are. Children need even more hugs throughout the day! From the moment they are born, they form bonds through physical touch and they thrive off of it. When my toddlers are throwing a fit, I have learned to calm them down by hugging them (aside from also speaking and listening to them). A hug helps them settle down and soothe. I’ve witnessed their anger and frustration melt away in my arms. If you did not receive much physical affection from your parents, hugging may be foreign to you, but you can be the change your child needs. Try hugging your child (no matter how old they are) for 1 minute today and then strive to do it daily. The benefits are mutual!
