In dire need of a vacation but don’t know where to go with your family? Surfside is a hidden gem known as Miami’s Uptown Beachtown and is ideal for relaxing in a laidback luxe lifestyle ambience. It is a small town (1 mile long!) located north of Miami Beach and south of Bal Harbour (literally a block away) and is perfect for families who want to enjoy fun in the sun. Its pristine beaches are not overpopulated by tourists and have a private, relaxed feel to it where families can calmly enjoy. Surfside also offers a variety of family-friendly activities and yearly events.
Out-of-towners can fly in for the weekend or locals, like me, simply take a short drive and feel like you’re on vacation except it was a “staycation” for us and boy, was it highly needed. Surfside has a private community center for Surfside residents only and Surfside hotel guests and hosts several activities throughout the year (check in advance to view their list of activities if you are planning a weekend trip: HERE). They hosted the Endless Summer Theme Beach Celebration (First Fridays) where there was live music, games, pool fun, and beach activities for the entire family (they host First Fridays during the summer months and Third Thursdays, a community block-party of sorts during the beginning of the year).
We stayed at the Residence Inn by Marriott Miami Beach Surfside hotel and upon arrival, we were welcomed with a lovely Visit Surfside basket filled with goodies like aluminum water bottles, beach bags, beach toys for the babies, and my favorite, a personalized beach blanket made by BASK MIAMI. We had a delicious dinner from The Carrot and ate fresh Scottish Salmon with Quinoa Almondine, which I wish I can get the recipe for! Then we relaxed in our lovely hotel room with our 2 babies and called it a night.
On Saturday we played tourists for a day and strolled the streets in our double stroller. We walked to the community center and then took photos at Turtle Walk which our kids loved seeing the whimsical turtle art. Then we walked down Harding Avenue and window-shopped while eating ice cream at Serendipity Creamery. We realized the town is predominantly a Jewish community so on Saturdays, Jewish-owned restaurants and stores are closed for religious purposes. Though it was cloudy, we were blessed with no rain which allowed us to walk and get acquainted with this lovely town.
Our stay at Surfside was a perfect mini-getaway which was what we needed! The residents were gracious and welcoming and the quaint town made us feel wonderful. We had a fabulous staycation at Surfside and can’t wait to head back in the near future. If you’d like to visit Surfside, FL, check out their site HERE.
